September 21, 2023 by
Filed under What's happening

Ivy Chapel is again hosting a Blood Drive with Impact Life on Thursday November 2, 2023 from 2- 6 pm.

Our organizer, Sue Wilson, said, “I was speaking with a friend the other day about the blood drive  Ivy Chapel UCC hosts twice a year. She works in a local hospital and said that last week 1 patient required 20 units of blood and another had used 18 units of blood and would probably require more. The hospital she works at was scrambling to obtain emergency blood supplies to meet the needs of these 2 patients.”

Blood supplies are again dangerously low and we need YOUR HELP!

Schedule your appointment here , or contact event coordinator, Sue Wilson at 314-324-3765 for help setting up your appointment.

Thank you for choosing to give the gift of life!

*HYMN-- Praise to the Lord, the Almighty #10
Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation!
O my soul, praise Him, for He is your health and salvation!
All ye who hear; now to His temple draw near,
Join me in glad adoration.

Praise to the Lord, who o’er all things so wondrously reigneth;
Shelters thee under His wings, yea, so gently sustaineth!
Hast thou not seen How thy desires e’er have been
Granted in what He ordaineth?

Praise to the Lord, who doth prosper thy work and defend thee;
Surely His goodness and mercy here daily attend thee.
Ponder anew what the Almighty can do,
If with his love He befriend thee.

 Praise to the Lord! O let all that is in me adore Him!
All that hath life and breath, come now with praises before Him.
Let the Amen sound from His people again;
Gladly for aye we adore Him.

*PRAYER OF INVOCATION
     O Spirit, who accompanies us and who helps us in all of our struggles; we call on you in prayer. You truly are our health and salvation! In this experience of being together, during this time set apart for gathering side by side in community; we are reminded of how closely connected we are. For this blessing, we praise you, O God! You know us completely. Teach us and guide us to keep growing in our relationship with you, God. Lead us to rely on your astonishing promises. Fill us with your grace. May our dreams and visions be your dreams and visions, Faithful God. Amen.

The world behind me, the cross before me,
The world behind me, the cross before me;
The world behind me, the cross before me;
No turning back, no turning back.

Tho' none go with me, I still will follow,
Tho' none go with me I still will follow,
Tho' none go with me, I still will follow;
No turning back, no turning back.

Will you decide now to follow Jesus?

The pleasant summer sun,
The ripe fruits in the garden,
He made them, ev’ry one. [Refrain]

He gave us eyes to them,
And lips that we might tell

Who has made all things well. [Refrain]

 PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE AND THE LORD’S PRAYER

*HYMN -- Hymn of Promise   -- #277
In the bulb, there is a flower
In the seed, an apple tree
In cocoons, a hidden promise
Butterflies will soon be free

In the cold and snow of winter
There's a spring that waits to be
Unrevealed until its season
Something God alone can see

There's a song in every silence
Seeking word and melody
There's a dawn in every darkness
Bringing hope to you and me

From the past will come the future
What it holds, a mystery
Unrevealed until its season
Something God alone can see

In our end is our beginning
In our time, infinity
In our doubt, there is believing
In our life, eternity
In our death, a resurrection
At the last, a victory

Unrevealed until its season
Something God alone can see

responding faithfully in our own personal wildernesses.

One: May this time of worship serve as an oasis in our desert wilderness.
All: Let us rely on God’s strength in all situations.

*HYMN – My Faith Looks Up to Thee – #462
My faith looks up to Thee, Thou Lamb of Calvary,
Savior divine!
Now hear me while I pray, Take all my guilt away,
Oh, let me from this day Be wholly Thine!
May Thy rich grace impart strength to my fainting heart,
My zeal inspire!
As Thou hast died for me, Oh, may my love to Thee Pure, warm, and changeless be, A living fire
While life’s dark maze I tread, And griefs around me spread,
Be Thou my guide;
Bid darkness turn to day, Wipe sorrow’s tears away,
Nor let me ever stray From Thee aside.
When ends life’s transient dream, When death’s cold, sullen stream
Shall o’er me roll;
Blest Savior, then in love, Fear and distrust remove;
Oh, bear me safe above, A ransomed soul!

*OPENING PRAYER
Life-Saving God; above all, you are our heart’s desire. You alone make our spirits soar. You have enabled us to break free from an exacting and exhausting world to come into your sanctuary.
Breathe new life into us, Faithful and Loving God. Bless us, we pray, with eyes to see earthly demands for what they truly are. Teach us. Change us. Lead us to love all people with your steadfast love, Jesus. By your grace and peace, empower our witness, Life-Saving God; for we long to serve you. Amen.

June 28, 2020 Virtual Worship

This week’s hymns:

Psalm 89: I Will Sing of the Mercies

  1. I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever, I will sing, I will sing.
    I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever, I will sing of the mercies of the Lord.
    With my mouth I will make known your faithfulness, your faithfulness;
    with my mouth will I make known your faithfulness to all generations.
    I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever, I will sing of the mercies of the Lord.
  2. All the hosts of the angels sing God’s praise forever for the things he has done.
    All the hosts of the angels sing God’s praise forever,
    all the hosts of the angels sing God’s praise.
    Who can be compared to God in faithfulness, in faithfulness?
    Who can be compared to God in faithfulness to all generations?
    I will sing of the mercies of the Lord forever, I will sing of the mercies of the Lord.

Help Us Accept Each Other

  1. Help us accept each other as Christ accepted us;
    Teach us as sister, brother each person to embrace.
    Be present, Lord, among us and bring us to believe.
    We are ourselves accepted and meant to love and live.
  2. Teach us, O Lord, Your lessons, as in our daily life.
    We struggle to be human and search for hope and faith.
    Teach us to care for people, for all, not just for some;
    To love them as we find them, or as they may become.
  3. Let Your acceptance change us, so that we may be moved
    In living situations to do the truth in love;
    To practice Your acceptance until we know by heart
    The table of forgiveness and Laughter’s healing art.
  4. Lord, for today’s encounters with all who are in need,
    Who hunger for acceptance, for righteousness and bread,
    We need new eyes for seeing, new hands for holding on;
    Renew us with Your Spirit; Lord, free us, make us one!

May 3 Virtual Worship

We are glad you could join us again for this week’s virtual worship, the fourth Sunday of Easter.

More Love to Thee

  1. More love to Thee, O Christ, More love to thee!
    Hear Thou the prayer I make on bended knee;
    This is my earnest plea: More love, O Christ, to Thee,
    More love to Thee, More love to Thee!
  2. Once earthly joy I craved, Sought peace and rest;
    Now Thee alone I seek, Give what is best;
    This all my prayer shall be: More love, O Christ, to Thee,
    More love to Thee, More love to Thee!
  3. Let sorrow do its work, Send grief and pain;
    Sweet are Thy messengers, Sweet their refrain;
    When they can sing with me: More love, O Christ, to Thee,
    More love to Thee, More love to Thee!
  4. Then shall my latest breath Whisper Thy praise;
    This be the parting cry My heart shall raise;
    This still its prayer shall be: More love, O Christ, to Thee,
    More love to Thee, More love to Thee!

Spirit Song

  1. O let the Son of God enfold you with his Spirit and his love,
    let Him fill your life and satisfy your soul.
    O let him have the things that hold you and his Spirit, like a dove,
    will descend upon your life and make you whole.

Refrain
Jesus, come and fill your lambs.
Jesus, O Jesus, come and fill your lambs.

  1. O come and sing t his song with gladness as you r hearts are filled with joy,
    lift your hands in sweet surrender to his name.
    O give him all your tears and sadness, give him all your years of pain
    and you’ll enter into life in Jesus’ name.

Refrain

April 26 Virtual Worship

Of course we wish we could worship in person. However, we are blessed to be able to share this virtual experience with you.

Today’s scripture reading is Luke 24:13-35

Here, O My Lord, I See Thee

  1.  Here, O my Lord, I see Thee face to face;

       Here would I touch and handle things unseen,

       Here grasp with firmer hand h’eternal grace,

       And all my weariness upon Thee Lean.

3.    I have no help but Thine; nor do I need

       Another arm save Thine to lean upon;

       It is enough, my Lord, enough indeed;

       My strength is in Thy might, Thy might alone.

4.    Mine is the sin, but Thine the righteousness;

       Mine is the guilt, but Thine the cleansing blood.

       Here is my robe, my refuge, and my peace;

       Thy blood, Thy righteousness, O Lord, my God.

Shine, Jesus, Shine

Lord, the light of your love is shining

In the midst of the darkness, shining

Jesus, Light of the world, shine upon us

Set us free by the truth you now bring us

Shine on me, shine on me

Shine, Jesus, shine

Fill this land with the Father’s glory

Blaze, Spirit, blaze

Set our hearts on fire

Flow, river, flow

Flood the nations with grace and mercy

Send forth your word

Lord, and let there be light

Lord, I come to your awesome presence

From the shadows into your radiance

By the blood I may enter your brightness

Search me, try me, consume all my darkness

Shine on me, shine on me

As we gaze on your kingly brightness

So our faces display your likeness

Ever changing from glory to glory

Mirrored here may our lives tell your story

Shine on me, shine on me

Holy Week 2020: Easter Sunday

He is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!The Christian high holy day of Easter Sunday is the joyous occasion when God’s Church celebrates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ!

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is God’s Truth which proclaims the life, the death and the resurrection from the dead of the Son of God, Jesus Christ.

Three days after the Crucifixion of Jesus, the Resurrection comes as an unexpected, astonishing (and, in certain instances, ‘terrifying!’  –  see the Gospel of Mark 16:8) surprise to Jesus’ disciples.

From the days of the Early Church, it has been a custom for Christian believers to greet one another joyously on Easter Sunday in the following responsive manner:

One Christian begins by saying, â€œChrist is risen!”

Next, a second Christian responds, â€œChrist is risen indeed!”

In the Christian faith, Easter Sunday is called Resurrection Day.  This is the pinnacle event for Christianity and the pinnacle date in the entire Christian Church Year.  Another name which sometimes is given to Easter Sunday is “The Day of days!”  This name aptly describes the ultimate status of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Nothing tops it.  The meaning of Christ’s Resurrection (Easter Sunday) is that God’s power is greater than every other power, including sin and death.

Christ Jesus is alive…  alive today!

Jesus is risen from the grave.

There’s nothing there but an empty tomb!

Easter means that Jesus is still alive!

Christ is risen!  Alleluia!

View our Easter Sunday worship here.

Today’s Hymns

Christ the Lord is Risen Today  #268

Christ the Lord is risen today!  Al-le-lu-ia!

Sons of men and angels say:  Al-le-lu-ia!

Raise your joys and triumphs high, Al-le-lu-ia!

Sing, ye heav’n, and earth reply, Al-le-lu-ia!

2. Lives again our glorious King, Al-le-lu-ia!

Where, O death, is now thy sting?  Al-le-lu-ia!

Dying once, He all doth save:  Al-le-lu-ia!

Where thy victory, O grave?  Al-le-lu-ia!

3. Love’s redeeming work is done, Al-le-lu-ia!

Fought the fight, the battle won; Al-le-lu-ia!

Death in vain forbids Him rise; Al-le-lu-ia!

Christ has opened Paradise!  Al-le-lu-ia!

4. Soar we now where Christ has led, Al-le-lu-ia!

Following our exalted Head; Al-le-lu-ia!

Made like Him, like Him we rise; Al-le-lu-ia!

Ours the cross, the grave, the skies.  Al-le-lu-ia!
